The Southern Branch of the National Palace Museum (NPMSB) is positioned as an “Asian Art and Culture Museum..” In a move to bring into focus the incredibly rich essence of Asian culture for the audience in Taiwan and overseas, the Museum launched the NPM Asian Art Festival in 2017, an ongoing event featuring a specific Asian country every year, bringing together a full month of activities on the social calendar. The Festival coincides with the NPM’s anniversary in October, so everyone is invited to join us and experience the cultural elements of different Asian countries. This event has been chosen by the Taiwan Tourism Bureau, MOTC, as an international highlight on the Taiwan Tourism Events Calendar.
The theme of the 2nd 2018 Asian Art Festival is the Month of Singapore, spotlighting three main themes: Peranakan—-Traditional and New Fashion, Singapore- Traditional and Modern, and Singapore’s Multicultural Convergence and Inclusiveness. There will be a wide range of concurrent events: “the Sons of the Lion City: A Special Exhibition on Singapore's Peranakan Culture,” themed lectures, “Cinematic Singapore,” guided tours and multicultural experiences, performing arts, themed book exhibition, and a culinary and cultural expo. The Museum hopes to encourage visitors from Taiwan and overseas to embark a journey of Asian’s cultural wonders.
